Tom O’Neill-Thorne of the Queensland Spinning Bullets has put in a mammoth effort during Round 2 which has earnt him the 2021 Round 2 Player of the Week award.
Round 1 saw Tom and his Queensland Spinning Bullets have an up and down weekend splitting their results 2-2. Not content with those efforts Round 2 saw a fire lit from deep within the Queensland Spinning Bullets and at the heart of their improved Round 2 results was Tom O’Neill-Thorne
Tom kicked off the weekend notching up 18 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists in his first double-double of the round in a nail-biting 3 loss win to the Spinning Bullets over the Sydney Metro Blue Hornets.
Saturday the Queensland Spinning Bullets took on league perennial powerhouses the Perth Wheelcats in their first of 2 matchups for the weekend. Dropping the first match of the round was not an outcome that Tom and the Spinning Bullets decided to accept, while Perth dominated through a majority of the match Tom’s skill and will shone through as he rampaged his way to a jaw dropping triple double 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, including setting up the game winner with Sam White to win 66-64.
On Sunday saw another nail-biter in the rematch with Perth. Again, putting in a full 40 minute effort Tom kept his game at full throttle with another 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists giving the Spinning Bullets a comfortable win, 58-84.
Tom was dominant at both ends of the floor, bringing the best out of his teammates on top of a solid individual effort giving the Spinning Bullets a 2-1 win ratio for the weekend. We have now been fortunate enough to have two masterclass’s put on by our talented athletes across the two rounds played to date. Who will be the next to show their MVP potential or will this season be a battle between Tom and Shawn?
