2019 WNWBL SEASON PREVIEW: SYDNEY UNI FLAMES
Last Year: 6 wins, 9 losses- 4th
Roster:Tracey Carruthers, Anthea Castelli, Rachel Coady, Hannah Dodd, Kim Hughes, Rachel Kerrigan, Annabelle Lindsay, Patricia Luff, Brodie Palmer, Sarah Stewart, Zeena Suavaga, Liesl Tesch, Stephanie Van Leeuwen.
Fixture: The Flames don’t make their season debut until Round Two, when they host a cluster round at the Sydney University Sport and Aquatic Centre against the Perth Wheelcats, Red Dust Lady Heelers and the Kilsyth Cobras before they face a local rivalry match-up against the Sydney Metro Blue Hornets to close out Round Two. The two Sydney teams will meet twice more in Rounds Three and Five.
Overview: The Flames will bring back a practically identical line-up from the 2018 season, with rookie Rachel Kerrigan joining the pre-existing group. Annabelle Lindsay put up 19.9 points per game last season, good enough for third in the NWNBL. Lindsay will once again lead the team, alongside leaders Tracey Carruthers, Hannah Dodd, Brodie Palmer, Liesl Tesch and Stephanie Van Leeuwen.
One to Watch: Rookie Rachel Kerrigan will make her WNWBL debut in 2019, but the former RAAF Engineering Officer is no newbie to high level competitive sport, having competed at the Invictus Games in powerlifting and indoor rowing. Keep an eye on Kerrigan throughout the 2019 season as she takes on this new challenge.
