2019 WNWBL SEASON PREVIEW: RED DUST HEELERS

Last Year: 4 wins, 11 losses- 5th

Roster: Kiva Charles, Melissa Collins, Dianne Cowen, Roxanne Jones, Trudi Lines, Clare Nott, Kathleen O’Kelly-Kennedy, Taishar Ovens, Lily Poulter, Attaya Sam, Deanna Black.

Fixture: The Red Dust Heelers will enjoy a home-state season opening cluster round. The Heelers will face the Queensland Comets on the opening night, before they face the Kilsyth Cobras, Sydney Metro Blue Hornets and Perth Wheelcats to close out Round One. The Heelers will then have a week off in Round Three, before again hosting games in Round Four at the Bendat Basketball Centre.

Overview: Finishing two games out of the final four last season, the Heelers will be aiming to push back into the finals in 2019. Shelley Chaplin, Taylor Parry and Jade Richards are all missing from last year’s team, with Chaplin the team’s leading scorer at 11.9 points per game. Covering for the absence of Chaplin and Parry will be a big ask for the Heelers, with Clare Nott and Kathleen O’Kelly-Kennedy expected to take on bigger roles in 2019.

One to Watch: Long-time Gliders champion Clare Nott will play a pivotal role for the Red Dust Heelers in 2019. Averaging 10.2 points and five rebounds per game last season, the Paralympian will continue to bring a wealth of experience to the Heelers, who have a number of younger players such as Kiya Charles, Taishar Ovens and Lily Poulter.
