2019 SEASON PREVIEW: WOLLONGONG ROLLERHAWKS
Last Year: 12 wins, 6 losses- CHAMPIONS
Roster: Brad Fisher, Darren Hayes, Ashley James-Kennedy, Clay Kelly, Timothy Markcrow, Luke Pople, Timothy Rushby-Smith, Shawn Russell, Nick Scott, Brett Stibners, Nick Taylor.
Fixture: The Rollerhawks begin their season with four games in Round One against the Wheelcats, Cobras, Thunder and Heelers. The Rollerhawks then host their first-home series of the season against the Sydney Metro Blue Hornets at Shellharbour City Stadium in Round Two. While the Rollerhawks will have to wait until Round Eight for the Grand Final re-match against the Spinning Bullets.
Overview: The Rollerhawks have brought back a near identical team to the one that won the NWBL Championship in 2018, with centre Michael Auprince and Australian Gliders player Hannah Dodd missing from last year’s team. The opening round will be crucial for the Rollerhawks to get their season off to the right start, with four games against four different teams to open the season. Brett Stibners led the team in scoring last year with 24.1 points per game and he will be back for another go around for the Rollerhawks.
One to Watch: With the team’s second leading scorer from 2018 in Michael Auprince having departed the team, Shawn Russell should have an increased role this season after averaging 15.5 points per game in the Rollerhawks championship season.
