2019 NWBL SEASON PREVIEW: WEST ADELAIDE THUNDER
Last Year: 1 wins, 17 losses- 7th
Roster: Fernando Alonzo, Beau Buckley, Jay Dohnt, Shaun Holland, Michael Hooke, Luke McDowall, Adam Roocke, Nathan Simpson, Phil Stephens, Luke Watkins, Shaun Whitbread, Sam White, Eamon Wood.
Fixture: The Thunder will travel to Brisbane for the seasons opening round, facing the Hornets, Spinning Bullets, Rollerhawks and the Cobras at the Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre. The Thunder will start their season off facing the Hornets who finished in sixth place in 2018, finishing with just one more win than the Thunder. From there, the opening round becomes much tougher, as the Thunder face each of the top three teams from the previous season to close out Round One. The Thunder will then host their first home stand in Round Four in late July, playing the Spinning Bullets in a two-game series at the Port Adelaide Recreation Centre.
Overview: With the Thunder finishing in last place in 2018 with a 1-17 record, the South Australians will be looking to take a step forward in the 2019 NWBL season. With a largely unchanged roster, the Thunder will be hoping that another year of growth and improvement will see them build on their 2018 win total.
One to Watch: Phil Stephens shot 33.3% from three last season and interestingly shot a better percentage from three than from two. Playing all 18 games for the Thunder last season, Stephens helped to stretch the floor for his Thunder team. Can Stephens continue to make it rain from long range in 2019?
