2019 SEASON PREVIEW: PERTH WHEELCATS

Last Year: 7 wins, 11 losses- FIFTH

Roster: Natalie Alexander, Michael Auprince, Andrew Dewberry, Phil Evans, Lavale Faaeteete, Michael Hartnett, Joel Herbert, Kayl Jeffery, Amber Merritt, Benjamin Moncrief, Shaun Norris, Frank Pinder, Nick Radovich, Kim Robins and Sarah Vinci.

Fixture: The Wheelcats will fly to Brisbane for the season’s opening cluster round where they will face the Wollongong Rollerhawks, Sydney Metro Blue Hornets, Kilsyth Cobras and the Queensland Spinning Bullets. Next up the Wheelcats will host Round Two action against the West Adelaide Thunder in a three-game series. The home-stand is the first of three rounds played at the Wheelcats home court of the Bendat Basketball Centre, with Round Six and Round Eight also seeing Perth host home games.

Overview: In 2018 the Wheelcats finished in fifth position, sitting one spot outside of the NWBL final four. Perth have brought back a near identical roster for their 2019 season, with Thomas McHugh the one missing player. McHugh will play with the Red Dust Heelers this season, just one year removed from averaging 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for Perth. Meanwhile, Nick Radovich will make the move from the Queensland Spinning Bullets, as he gets set to suit up for the Wheelcats in 2019.

One to Watch: Superstar Shaun Norris is one to keep an eye on for the Wheelcats. The Roller averaged a triple-double last season of 27.6 points, ten rebounds and 10.7 assists per game, to once again prove himself as one of the NWBL’s top players. If Perth are to make the jump into the finals this season, expect a big campaign from Norris.
