2019 NWBL SEASON PREVIEW: KILSYTH COBRAS
Last Year: 14 wins, 4 losses – 2ndon ladder, 4thin finals
Roster:Josh Allison, Maxx Darby, Michael D’Amelio, Tristan Knowles, William Crooks, Jeremy Tyndall, Jontee Brown, Shaun Groenewegan, Damon Fent and Jaylen Brown.
Fixture: The Cobras travel to Brisbane for the seasons opening cluster round. There, they will face the Red Dust Heelers, Wollongong Roller Hawks, Perth Wheelcats & West Adelaide Thunder. With the Cobras finishing in second position at the end of the regular season last year, they will face each of the other top four teams in round one. Round One shapes as a barometer for the Cobras, with a strong start against some of the more favoured title contenders sure to set them up for another successful season.
Overview: The Cobras have undergone a shake-up over the off-season, seeing Brian Carminati, David King and Phillip Turner leave the team. All three were key role players for the Cobras last season, leaving Kilsyth with some holes to fill in their reserve unit. Meanwhile, four new Cobras enter the fold as the Cobras bring back three former players, with Maxx Darby, William Crooks and Jeremy Tyndall all returning to the team while Jaylen Brown will also suit up for the Cobras in 2019.
One to Watch: Kilsyth star Tristan Knowles will once again be one of the star attractions of the NWBL. Knowles averaged 27 points, 7.3 rebounds and 10.1 assists per game while also hitting a league-high 56 three pointers at a 36.8% clip. Illustrating Knowles’ exemplary three-point shooting, the Kilsyth star led the league in three-pointers made and three-point percentage, while the next best long-range shooter hit 24 threes, compared to Knowles’ 56.
